Help for Strengthening Pelvic Floor Muscles

Picture
Strengthening pelvic floor muscles can be helpful if you leak urine or stool when exercising, sneezing and coughing, or just throughout the day as you're moving about. It can also be helpful for those who've had prostate cancer surgery or pelvic organ prolapse surgery. Sometimes strengthening can be helpful if you have urinary or bowel urgency.

The resources listed below are for various biofeedback devices. Biofeedback describes any thing or process that gives you more information about what your body is doing -- in this case, squeezing and relaxing your pelvic floor muscles. Being able to visualize the movement of your pelvic muscles can help you identify correct muscle contraction and relaxation for best success with your home program.  Biofeedback is available in the clinic, but these units can help at home.

Resources for Kids and Teens

Kids and teens can have problems with their pelvic floor muscles too. These problems can be a primary cause of something such as an underlying medical diagnosis. They can also be a secondary issue because of history of pain, troubles with toilet training, and other social and behavioral factors. The following resources can be helpful for kids and teens with pelvic floor problems. If you would like to discuss whether your child or teen's pelvic symptoms are appropriate for pelvic floor physical therapy, please reach out to me using the contact form. I offer free 15-minute phone consultations as needed for all new patients.
